The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah or Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to deposit Rs1.45 million within 10 days in a case pertaining to publishing pictures in official advertisements.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard a case pertaining to printing of pictures in official advertisements.

As the hearing went under way, the bench directed that either the Sindh chief minister or the PPP deposit Rs1.45 million within 10 days.

The bench also sought a reply by Monday from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government over two official advertisements which carried pictures of former provincial chief minister Pervaiz Khattak.

Further, the bench rejected KP information secretary’s request to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within 10 days. Earlier as the KP information secretary submitted his request, the chief justice remarked, “Why don’t we get Rs30,000 cut from your salary? You are a government official and defend the illegal acts of politicians. We have no sympathies with such officials.”

“The KP government is trying to mislead the court, we should call Khattak,” the top judge added.

Earlier, the court had ordered former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sahrif to deposit Rs5 million for publishing pictures in official advertisements.
