By-election 2018: Woman defeats son in Muzaffargarh
In an unusual contest for a provincial assembly seat in Punjab on Sunday, a woman in Muzaffargarh defeated her opponent — her son.

Zehra Batool, who was contesting the by-election from PP-272 Muzaffargarh-V on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket, defeated her son Haroon Sultan Bukhari — an independent candidate.

According to unofficial results of the by-polls held on October 14, Batool received 24,019 votes in the PP-272 constituency. Bukhari stood second with 17,072 votes.
Polling for the by-election was held in 35 constituencies on Sunday, with 11 seats each of the National and Punjab assemblies, nine of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and two each of the Sindh and Balochistan up for grabs.

Results from the 11 NA constituencies saw the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) win four seats apiece.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) retained the two seats that were vacated by Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, while the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) won the NA-35 constituency in Bannu.

The PTI was unable to retain the two seats won by Prime Minister Imran Khan in the July 25 general election.
